As our community recycles more and throws away less, CARTM’s board of directors is continually looking for new ways to raise money to offset loss of trash revenue. Creative fundraisers are one of the ways the board keeps the dynamic spirit and CARTM’s zero waste message sparking in the community while the work goes on at the main facility.
The latest fundraiser is a “Re-Think” Raffle currently underway at CARTM, featuring three eco-friendly prizes: First Prize: an all-electric golf cart (now street legal in Manzanita) valued at $1500, Second Prize: a full-share from Re-Evolution Gardens Community Supported Agriculture (CSA), valued at $800, and Third Prize: a home composter valued at $45. The odds are great as only 450 tickets will be sold and can be purchased at CARTM for $15 each or three for $40. The drawing will be held at the final fundraising event for the year—The Trashion Show & Upcycle Party on Saturday, October 13, 2012 in Nehalem.
“With the rise in popularity of the golf-cart as an eco-transportation solution in Manzanita, we’re happy to be a part of that trend,” said Jan Hamilton, CARTM’s Executive Director. “Imagine six hours of driving on a single charge—that’s a lot of trips to the post office, grocery store, library and other local errands.”
“We’ve dubbed this great little vehicle the “eco-cart,” which comes equipped with a full cover making it usable year-round,” said Hamilton. “For those who don’t live in Manzanita, we’re also offering a full-share CSA which also fits nicely with our zero waste mission. Buying organic and local is the way to go with produce!”
Save the October 13 date for the popular Trashion Show aspect of the famed Trash Bash. The show will be held in the NCRD auditorium complete with runway and featuring 24 models sporting fabulous fashions created with recycled materials. Tickets go on sale September 10 for the event which includes an Upcycle Party where guests will be able to mingle with the models, enjoy tasty foods and beverages, music and, as typical with all CARTM events, be treated to some surprises.
