Kahoka mayor Wayne Blum looks at the dome that used to sit atop the previous courthouse in Kahoka, Mo., on Wednesday afternoon. Blum and his wife Dixie bought the dome the same day the old courthouse was demolished in May 2011.
There are still some mixed feelings in the community about the demolition of the courthouse that was built in 1870 and was on the National Register of Historic Places. Those who supported the new courthouse pointed out that the old building was cramped, deteriorating and could not have been made accessible or safe for the $4 million that was spent to build the new courthouse.
