Decoy Artist George Strunk Carves Fish from 1800’s Floorboard

George Strunk is a decoy carving savant from south Jersey.

He wrote to tell of me of a project he is working on.  A fish carved from a floorboard of a house built in the early 1800’s.

Sara, I’m making this old style fish carving out of a floorboard from a house in south jersey. It was an early 1800’s house and a friend of mine saved the floorboards. So we figure this tree was around in the 1700’s. thought you might like seeing it. The back will be left the way it is and the front will be painted.

George mentioned that since this wood was from an attic it has no nail holes in it.  He also pointed out how tight and clear the grain is.

Say George, how much would a fish like this go for – when its finished of course?
