These human-made flowers, grown from repurposed materials, seem perfectly at home in nature.

Pachyderm Perfection: Recycled Robotic Elephant | Gadgets, Science & Technology

It took 45 tons of recycled steel and wood to put this beast together. Overall, the elephant is about 39 feet high and 26 feet wide. It was meant to be an approximate replica of The Sultan’s Elephant, a huge elephant sculpture created for the traveling French public art show of the same name.

The Weld House – MODERN INDUSTRIAL STEEL FURNITURE

“I’ve always designed and built what i would like to have for myself”, explains Joel. “When i give something a thump-test, i want it to be rock solid. I most certainly don’t want anything faux.”  This design criteria goes into every piece that he creates at The Weld House.

Suri Iron – CRUMPLE New Works from Mike Suri

CRUMPLE
New Works from Mike Suri

Coleman

Mike Suri takes scrap metal and turns it around, hammers it out, paints, shines and buffs it and then presents it to us as something you want to put on your shelf, not your curbside.

Making art from waste is not a new concept, but Suri’s work practically begs you to ignore that it was ever on its way to the dump in the first place.

This October, Good:a gallery will be showcasing Crumple, comprising his three latest series – Coleman’s, Galvies, and other crushes.

Opening Reception

Friday, October 5th

7 to 10 pm

Adorable Brass & Bicycle Chain Pillbugs | 2Modern Blog

Austin-based artist Matt Norris makes VERY cool things out of metal (recent pieces in memory include a skeleton pirate sculpture and an amazingly-detailed praying mantis metal sculpture) but one of our favorite things he makes is little brass and recycled bicycle chain pillbugs (or roly polys, where I was raised). Made out of brass you can get them brass-colored or he also makes them with colored patinas. Small enough to fit in your hand but substantial enough to stand out on a shelf or table, at only $40 a piece they are kind of steal for a handmade piece of awesomeness. Find some on his Etsy store (maybe buy a few, because again, they are awesome).
