Nehalem, Manzanita, Wheeler, North Coast, SW Washington, Portland, etc.

It’s never too soon to start. Get out your cool junk—it’s time to make trash art. CARTMs annual Trash Art Show is all about working with that irresistibly interesting stuff you’ve been collecting and wanting to create something with.

All the rules are made to be broken when creating trash art. From beautiful mosaics made from broken dishes, to kinetic sculpture created with broken lawn mower parts to—everything is fair game.

The Trash Art Show is a unique local tradition and creative fundraiser for CARTM. This year’s event, our seventeenth, will be at the Gallery at NCRD, the show’s new permanent location in Nehalem, with lots of open and well lit space for your art, and plenty of parking for art lovers.

Artists may submit up to three pieces of work for the show.   There is no entry fee and the only stipulations are that all artwork must be created with recycled, repurposed or reused materials and must fit through a standard size door.   The work must be for sale. Sales receipts are split evenly between the artist(s) and CARTM.

All work needs to be submitted to the Gallery at the NCRD on April 29 between 1 and 5 pm. Each submitted piece must have a title and be ready with appropriate hardware for hanging or display.

CARTM, www.cartm.org, is a 501c(3) non-profit organization and is a registered partner with the Oregon Cultural Trust.

CARTM is by far one of the spunkiest reuse centers.

Located on the Oregon Coast this reuse center came into existence through the community collaboration and need. Once a transfer station, the residents of Manzanita, Oregon started swapping out used materials for less used. They organized it, added a recycling area and called it CARTM. One only has to live in a small rural town or an island, to understand resource scarcity. These folks took it upon themselves to use local resources to the fullest, reusing and re-purposing as much as possible. And having a great time doing it!

CARTM’s annual Trashion Show and Upcycle Party, once again, delighted audience members with 22 “trashionistas” donning attire made out of… well, trash and other recyclable materials.

The hour-long Saturday evening show at the North County Recreation District auditorium got off to a rousing start with entertainment provided by the Tsunami Drummers. Master of ceremonies “Trashionista” Aina Tonjes, decked out in her trashiest best, was at the top of her game, as were those who joined the fun.

The Trashion Show and Upcycle Party, held afterwards in the NCRD gym above the auditorium, is an annual fundraiser for CARTM Recycling Center near Manzanita.

CARTM prepares for second annual Trashion Show & Upcycle Party – Tillamook Headlight-Herald: News

CARTM has one of the best ever reuse design contest party. The Trashion Show and Upcycle Party brings the entire community out every year. This is serious fun.

Re-think fall fashion…think Trashion! CARTM’s beloved Trashion Show & Upcycle Party (TSUP) event is right around the corner, so it is time once again to get out the sewing machines and create some “hot couture.” The second annual show, which will take place on Saturday, Oct. 12, 7 p.m. at the NCRD auditorium in Nehalem, is seeking participants who want to sew, strut or be part of the audience for this unique happening.
