“People come in asking for corbels all day long,” says Melanie Linn, manager of The Preservation Salvage Store, a not-for-profit retail establishment started in post-Katrina New Orleans. The shop’s mission is to salvage architectural materials from severely damaged buildings in order to help residents restore their homes affordably, preserve New Orleans architecture, and keep viable parts out of landfills. Sales proceeds support Rebuilding Together New Orleans and the other programs of the Preservation Resource Center.
