Tom Cross, tattooist and artist based in Broomfield CO (Denver metro area), first used a repurposed satellite dish as protection from the elements for a well and pump at an off-grid property, and then took that idea a step further by creating an installation of them in front of the Smokey Banana Tattoo shop, where they serve as “a shaded area for customers, employees, friends and the occasional Mexican wrestling match.”

Business Profile: Pineview Home Improvement

Question: Why did you want to work with repurposed materials?

K.R.: We love the look of being able to infuse the old with the new. We also have a stake in the future of our family and we see how many things get discarded by construction industry. We thought it would be a good practice for our company to try and repurpose as much as possible. It’s not always possible, but we do it whenever possible. It also really makes a great conversation piece and adds some unique character in a remodel when you can infuse something that someone might have like a screen door from their grandparents’ house. It makes it more special to the homeowner.
