A London-based fashion designer is turning recycled rubber into 1970s punk rock-inspired accessories.East Londoner G Martin, 34, repurposed nearly 688 pounds of rubber that would be piling up in landfills by turning it into rockin’ recycled fashion pieces.

Over the past 6 months, they’ve developed an ecological and unprecedented woven geo-textile made from recycled car tires for a proposed linear park named The Artery. Dubbed Matireal, the trail blazing product could help stitch communities together along a former rail corridor.

Building Plot workshop | Park Structure of Reclaimed C&D

The Building Plot is an ongoing research project being driven by a partnership between Architecture Sans Frontieres UK ASF-UK and the Eden Project to raise awareness about the issues of excess waste in the construction industry and develop more sustainable modes of practice by promoting reuse, innovation and training opportunities.

The Building Plot aims to consider the number of unemployed individuals who could play a part in a new generation of sustainable construction workers by creating training courses targeted at sustainability and reuse.
